A junior cricketer in Victoria participates in approximately 15 to 20 matches each year, weather permitting. During these matches, many juniors typically face around 15 to 20 balls, including wides and no balls, and tend to bowl about 2-3 overs. They might not have the opportunity to bat or bowl in some games. Most juniors can start playing on turf wickets by age 15. In contrast, young cricketers compete in over 100 matches yearly in some countries and can access turf wickets as early as 11! Our experience in the past ten years is that our kids lack the opportunities to play and build game sense, awareness, and match experience.
At VECL, we are dedicated to creating more valuable opportunities for aspiring young players who aim to develop into confident cricketers. T20 cricket has transformed the cricket industry, paving the way for everyday men and women to reach elite levels. This format signifies the future, and VECL is providing juniors with the chance to be part of a franchise, receive mentorship and coaching from first-class cricketers, compete on turf wickets against strong opponents, and engage in a supportive ecosystem that offers continuous coaching, mentorship, and most importantly, opportunities to play the game and have fun!
I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all the young cricketers and their parents for making the effort to attend the team selection, and wishing you all a joyful and unforgettable tournament! To all junior cricketers looking at improving your skills and play at the highest level, It's your time to rise and shine!
