Three franchises in Melbourne, playing turf T20 since 2024, and four in Chennai, starting their first season in January 2027. One league, with players moving in both directions.

Turf T20 in December and again from March. Players register for the season, not with a club, and squads are picked from everyone who registers — from across Australia and from overseas.

Chennai
Four league-owned clubs, one for each of four south Chennai neighbourhoods. Season 1 runs on Sundays from 10 January to 25 April 2027, in eight age bands — three of them girls’ and women’s.

The draft
Players are drafted, not signed. After the team selection days on 6 and 13 December 2026, the panel drafts players across the four clubs, band by band, so no club is stacked. Families do not choose a club, and requests are not taken. Squads are published as the draft completes.
One league, both directions
Players move between the two cities.
Two selectors from the Melbourne league sit on the Chennai selection panel in December. From Season 1, the league intends to bring two players from every Chennai age band to the VECL Melbourne tournament in December 2027 — an intention, confirmed once the season is under way, and subject to visas.
